Olympus Camera Reviews: Hands-on With Stylus 780

Post image for Olympus Camera Reviews: Hands-on With Stylus 780

The Olympus Stylus 780 is a small, 7.1 megapixel camera. Images taken by this camera can be enlarged to 10 by 8 inches within any blurring. The Olympus Stylus 780 has similar features to the Stylus 760, however the newer model has a 5X optical zoom, as well as a 5.6X digital zoom. The zoom function on the Olympus Stylus 780 is useful for capturing distant objects as well as getting candid pictures.

The Olympus Stylus 780 takes good quality photographs even in low light. This feature is helpful when taking pictures indoors or in a candle-lit environment. However, due to the low weight of the camera (a little more than 5 ounces) and the long exposure time, the Olympus Stylus 780 often gives shaky results. Fortunately, the Olympus Stylus 780 has a feature for image stabilization, which allows pictures to be taken without shaking in various different conditions.

The Olympus Stylus 780 has several different modes for shooting pictures as well as one for videos. It also contains a wide LCD display, a self-timer, and an xD slot to add an extra memory card.

Despite its many advantages, the Olympus Stylus 780 also has a few disadvantages. For one, the LCD screen takes up a lot of battery power, and although it is rechargeable, it is advisable to carry extra sets when planning to use the Olympus Stylus 780 for long periods of time. Furthermore, the screen is difficult to view in intense sunlight.

Another negative aspect of the Olympus Stylus 780 is that one can only take video footage for 10 seconds. This greatly limits the utility of the camera. Finally, despite the 7.1 megapixel resolution, the Olympus Stylus 780 takes pictures that lack sharpness and clarity. While this does not matter for smaller prints, when enlarging images to a poster size the pixilated blurriness will show.

Stylistically, the Olympus Stylus 780 is an elegant camera. It comes in silver and black, and has a clean, uncluttered appearance. The controls are easy to use, and the set up and configuration is user friendly.

As a relatively low priced camera at approximately $150, the Olympus Stylus 780 is compact enough to carry in ones pocket or purse. The camera takes excellent pictures in low light environments, and has a deep zoom feature. However, for outdoor photographs taken in bright sunlight, this camera is not necessarily the best available option on the market.
