So say you’ve always wanted a digital SLR camera so you could take amazing holiday photos or just to get your toes wet a bit in the pool of amateur photographers, but when you’d go to the store you’d see the outrageous prices. Many of these fancy cameras run well over $1,000, but what most people do not know is that they can get their hands on one of these gems by buying them used. Most tech chains such as Best Buy and Circuit City do not tell you this because it is to their disadvantage. There are many places online to buy discounted cameras for up to half of the market price and the usually have little to no scratches that in the end, do not affect the quality of your photograph at all. Keh.com is where I bought my used Canon Rebel XTi and I couldn’t be happier.
The Nikon D60 is a powerful camera offering 10.2 Megapixels, coming with its factory lens AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR (3.0x). Its shutter speed is 30 to 1/4000 seconds, which is top notch for capturing images at high speeds. At Best Buy, this camera costs a frightening $599, but on Keh.com, its price tag reads $429, a much affordable options for the same exact camera. All other trinkets are included such as the battery, charger, USB cables, and the much-needed camera strap. These used cameras are in exceptional condition with virtually no visible wears. It is definitely a top option for those who want to snap on a budget.
Pentax’s 10.2 Megapixel digital SLR camera without a lens costs $599.99 on the Pentax website while its 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 DA L factory lens separately costs $199.99. When added together, the value of the total camera comes out to be $799.98. The discounted camera website, Keh.com, offers this camera used including its original lens at a price to beat, $449. The camera’s price has been more than halved, just because it had a previous owner. In the long run, the camera will take the same exact pictures as a new one and you end up winning with more cash in your pocket. Its shutter speed is 30 to 1/4000 seconds, just like the Nikon D60.
My personal favorite is the Canon Digital Rebel XTi 10.1 Megapixel camera with its factory lens, 18-55mm II USM. Its shutter speed is 30 to 1/4000 seconds, just like the Nikon D60 and Pentax model. This popular camera costs $599.99 on Best Buy’s website, but if you pan over to Keh.com, you will see the same camera costs $339 used. Though it is the most affordable of the three I have mentioned, you get the most quality for your money and when the time comes to buy another lens, Canon has tons of different types to choose from.
Nikon, Pentax, and Canon all make top quality digital SLR cameras and will produce amazing pictures regardless. Buying one is a matter of choice and I recommend going into stores and holding them and checking out all of their features, because a review on-line can only tell you so much. One tip to keep in mind when purchasing on-line though is to make sure to buy a “camera kit” or “camera outfit” because if you just buy a “camera body”, you will receive a camera with everything but the lens. Happy snapping!
